Western Society Sure ‘PROVES’ Beauty

I came across another article that Zooey Deschanel shared on Facebook titled: “Women From 37 Countries were photographed to Prove that Diversity is Beautiful”.

The photos are in fact beautiful but that’s besides the point. Maybe this just bugs me because I’m an english major, but since when did any race of woman have to PROVE their beauty? Oh wait…they don’t. Western Eurocentric societies (like our own) created a backwards form of social acceptance for those with coloured skin- realistically diversity has been beautiful since the beginning of time as seen in ancient art and literature. I don’t think most of the caucasian population understands that they are probably the last humans on earth to start accepting (and sadly needing to promote) that every race is beautiful.

I could rant on about this forever and I am aware this is a radical and generalized statement- but headlines like this, diminish my faith in powerful social lites of modern society as they still continue to promote ideas of equality in the wrong way.

The photos from the post are great anyways so check it out:

Till next time,
